Wow, this term has flown by—I can’t believe we only have two weeks to go! The students have had a busy few weeks with Polwarth Sports and NAPLAN, and I want to congratulate them all on their efforts in both activities. We continue to strive for excellence in Grade 3, and I’m sure everyone is looking forward to the upcoming holiday break!
In our literacy block, we’ve been working through our final Sounds-Write units—/t/, /z/, and /eer/—while also covering polysyllabic words, revisiting previous sounds, and exploring prefixes and suffixes. The students are still enjoying Matilda by Roald Dahl and have begun analysing its narrative structure. Each week, we explore additional texts that provide more background information about the story. We’ve also been visiting the school library weekly for independent reading time and to enjoy the newly updated space.
In Numeracy, we’ve continued with the new curriculum and worked through NAPLAN preparation. The students have been learning to solve worded problems by identifying the key information. Now that NAPLAN is behind us, we’ve shifted focus to exploring 3D shapes, their properties, and various forms of measurement, including mass and length. The students have really enjoyed the hands-on activities, especially working with 3D shapes and scales. To finish the term, we’ll be diving into Algebra.
Our Inquiry focus has remained consistent over the past few weeks with the introduction of our laptops. Students have been exploring digital technology and integrating these devices into different lessons. We’ve also been practicing our typing skills and using Google Classroom to access resources and record our ideas.
Additionally, we have begun our Pivot Surveys, which will continue each week for the rest of the term. These surveys provide valuable insight into how students are feeling and managing both at school and at home. To support this, we have been unpacking emotions in our Respectful Relationships lessons, discussing the differences between emotional situations in the yard and the classroom.
Wishing you all the best for the remainder of the term—I hope everyone enjoys a well-deserved break over Easter. See you in Term 2!
