Over the past few weeks, Grade 3/4M has been abuzz with new learning experiences and preparations for our upcoming House Sports. Within our classroom, we've fostered a supportive culture where students feels secure, respected, and motivated to excel. It's been inspiring to witness students setting personal learning goals and pushing themselves to achieve them.
The Polwarth Sports day at Alvie was a great success, showcasing teamwork and sportsmanship among our 3/4M students. We were thrilled to see many members of our school community join us on the day.
In Literacy sessions, we've honed our skills in decoding various spellings for individual sounds through Sounds Write sessions, while also delving into enriching vocabulary. Our repertoire of comprehension strategies has expanded, with students making predictions and connections before, during, and after reading. We've also delved into Reciprocal Reading, employing prediction, clarification, questioning, and summarisation techniques to analyse texts.
In Writing, we've wrapped up our narrative unit, focusing on plot development and climax in creative storytelling, alongside analysing sentence structures and the role of prepositional phrases.
In Numeracy, we've delved into the four fundamental operations—addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Tackling multi-step word problems, we've dissected each step required for solutions. Explorations have extended to measuring the volume of 3D shapes, calculating the perimeter of 2D shapes, understanding angles, and assessing probabilities. Students have enthusiastically engaged with 'Matific' to showcase their mathematical prowess.
Our Inquiry sessions have centred on fixed versus growth mindsets and recognising how restrictive thinking can influence our response to challenges. Through the 'Respectful Relationships' program, we've delved into emotional literacy and identifying personal strengths, fostering a deeper understanding of emotions and strengths within ourselves and our peers.
As the first term draws to a close, we reflect on the busy yet productive journey. Witnessing the students' growing independence and ownership of their learning has been a joy. We commend the Year 3 students for embracing the challenges of NAPLAN during weeks 7 and 8. We look forward to continuing our learning opportunities and adventures in the upcoming term.
