Term One is coming to a close already! The students have all worked so hard this term and have been increasingly cooperative and enthusiastic about their learning. It was delightful to witness their active involvement in events such as Clean Up Australia Day and Sports Day at Alvie. Our excursion to COPACC to experience Wilbur the Optical Whale was equally enjoyable, providing an enriching experience for all.
Looking ahead, we eagerly anticipate House Sports and the upcoming Easter celebrations next week. In our literacy program, Sounds Write continues to be a success as we advance in mastering the /ae/ and /d/ sound spellings.
In Reading, we've delved into various comprehension strategies including prediction-making, visualisation, and making connections to self, other texts, and the world. The students have successfully applied these strategies, particularly during our engaging readings of Philip Bunting's works "Wild Life: A Berry Long Walk" and "A Line in the Sand".
In Writing, students have created characters using descriptive adjectives and crafted narratives around them. Through brainstorming, planning, drafting, and editing, they have honed their storytelling skills. Our next step involves exploring avenues for publishing their work.
In Mathematics, we've explored concepts such as Trust the Count and Subitising, building upon our understanding of Place Value. Additionally, we've delved into number patterns, skip counting, and students have reflected on their growth in this area. In Statistics and Probability, students have collected and analysed `data, investigating the likelihood of various events. In Measurement and Geometry, we've focused on length and estimation, with students mastering the use of rulers to measure objects accurately.
Our Inquiry focus this term has centred around significant themes such as Clean Up Australia Day, Growth Mindset, and Harmony Day. Through a variety of activities and discussions, students have gained a deeper understanding of the importance of inclusion and respect for both people and places.
Wishing you all a happy and safe Easter holiday period! We’ll see you in Term Two!
