We're thrilled to bring you the latest update from Grade 3/4M. The first half of this term has been exciting, filled with a range of engaging events and learning experiences for our students.
We began our first round of clubs in Week 2, where students had the chance to explore their interests. The enthusiasm and participation from students has been wonderful. Clubs includes activities such as STEAM, Minecraft, Directed drawing, etc. These clubs provide a fantastic opportunity for students to develop new skills and foster multi-age friendships.
We had a visit from Life Education in the first week of term, who taught us about the importance of personal safety. This was an interactive and informative session that left a positive impact on our students. They learnt about the importance of personal safety and understanding their bodies, and respecting themselves and others. The visit included engaging activities and discussions that helped reinforce these important messages.
We are looking forward to the ‘Peasant Prince’ performance at COPACC next week, embracing the performing arts.
In our learning journey, our Sounds Write sessions have been focusing on suffixes, expanding our understanding of language and its components. Students have been practising adding suffixes to base words, enhancing their spelling and vocabulary skills.
In Reading, we've been immersed in our novel study of "Rowan of Rin" by Emily Rodda. Through this, we've been honing our comprehension skills using various strategies such as predicting, questioning, clarifying, and summarising. This novel has captivated the students' interest and sparked lively discussions about the characters and plot.
When it comes to writing, our attention has been on sentence structure and punctuation within complex sentences. Students have been learning how to craft well-structured sentences with proper punctuation, making their writing clearer and more effective. Additionally, we're in the process of drafting and composing poetry, focusing on rhymes and odes. This has allowed our students to unleash their creativity and share their unique voices. They’ve been experimenting with different poetic forms and techniques, expressing their thoughts and emotions through their writing.
In Maths, we've been delving into problem-solving strategies that challenge our minds and critical thinking abilities. Students have been working on a variety of mathematical problems that require logical reasoning and creative thinking. We've also been exploring transformation patterns, unlocking the fascinating world of shapes and their changes. Students have learnt about translations, rotations, and reflections, and how these transformations affect shapes. This hands-on exploration has helped them develop a deeper understanding of geometry. We've had a huge amount of fun exploring different mathematical concepts through Olympic challenges. The students have competed in various events then collected, tabled, and analysed the results. This practical application of mathematics has made learning more engaging and relevant.
During our Inquiry sessions we are exploring STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Maths) through the Olympics. We have been designing uniforms and relay torches, analysing different Olympic sports, and understanding how STEAM relates to these events. Students have been investigating the science behind athletic performance, such as how physics affects movement and speed. They’ve also been exploring the technology used in sports equipment. The art component involves designing posters and uniforms, allowing students to express their creativity while learning about design principles. Maths has been integrated through activities such as measuring distances, calculating averages, and analysing data.
In our Respectful Relationships sessions, we have explored positive coping strategies and developed our understanding of seeking help. The students have become familiar with identifying types of events and situations that require students to seek help from a trusted adult. We have practised techniques for asking for help for themselves or others and reflected on how these techniques help us and the people around us. These sessions have been crucial in helping students develop emotional intelligence and resilience.
Thank you for your continued support. We’re excited about the learning journey ahead and the many more exciting experiences to come.
